The Procedure
The procedure is simple and takes approximately two weeks for the majority of patients. Your dentist will take a special impression of your teeth and send this to dedicated Enlighten lab where new, bespoke, super sealed bleaching trays are made. These have a double-layer for exceptional fit and are unique to Enlighten Evolution system.
You will wear the trays for 4 to 8 hours a day, for approximately two weeks. You will then return to the practice for a 1 hour long appointment to complete the whitening process. The preparation time for this is minimal as no soft tissue protection is required unlike the other in-surgery whitening systems. Here we will place a slightly stronger gel on your teeth for two sessions of 20 minute applications using the same application trays. After this visit your teeth will be whitened.
Amazingly the 6% hydrogen peroxide concentration of the gel the dentist use in the Enlighten Evolution system is a quarter the concentration of most other whitening systems. This is possible due to the increase in permeability achieved by using the super sealed trays and results in zero sensitivity in most cases.
We would advise you to top up the whitening at home on an occasional basis to maintain your results depending on your diet and habits. Results last indefinitely as long as you wear the trays for at least 6 nights a year after your treatment. It is important to have regular hygiene sessions.
