Suggested regimes for pain relief for healthy adults
- Ibuprofen: Take 200-400mg every 4 hours
Ibuprofen maximum dose is 3200mg in any 24 hours - Paracetamol: Take 2 x 500mg every 4-6 hours
Paracetamol maximum dose is 4000mg in any 24 hours
In cases of severe pain it is safe to take the maximum dose of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol together.
These drugs should be taken with plenty of water and preferably food.
If you are unable to take Ibuprofen we recommend Paracetamol on its own.
Codeine doesn’t provide very good pain relief for dental pain.
Private and Denplan Patients
Private and Denplan patients requiring emergency dental treatment should contact the practice where we aim to offer an appointment on the same day.
We also offer an out-of-hours emergency service which includes telephone advice on weekday nights and an emergency on-call service to cover weekends and bank holidays. Please contact 07585 399676 for further details.
NHS Patients
Wherever possible we will endeavour to see NHS patients requiring emergency treatment.
However, if no NHS appointments are available, emergencies will be directed to the Emergency Dental Service in Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
During Surgery Hours
In the case of an emergency during practice hours please contact us as early in the day as you can. If you are in pain we will do our best to see you the same day.
Out of Surgery Hours
When the practice is closed please call the practice telephone number and a recorded message will give further information on how to access advice and treatment in the event of a dental emergency.
If you need to be seen for a dental emergency outside normal surgery hours, with the exception of Denplan members, a callout fee will be charged.
